THE BUSINESS

In 2022, a new CEO took to the helm of Concurrent Technologies Plc, an organisation that was well-established in its niche but had hit a plateau. The business had no formal leadership team, with most key decisions previously made by the former CEO. There had been little emphasis on leadership development, and the company lacked the ambition to grow.

Seeing untapped potential and recognising that transforming the organisation’s leadership, capability and ambition would be essential to drive future growth, the CEO’s first step was creating a new executive leadership team, blending internal talent with external hires.

THE CHALLENGE

Concurrent Technologies Plc needed to shift from a centrally-controlled structure to one where leaders were empowered to make decisions. So the CEO’s challenge was not only building a high-performing leadership team from scratch. But there was also a need to develop internal capabilities that would enable sustainable success, whilst also instilling a culture of collaboration, ambition and aligned leadership behaviours across the business. That’s why Coode was brought in to help.

“If you believe that aligning leadership mindset and behaviours to strategic intent is the key to creating paradigm shifting outcomes, then talk to Coode. But be prepared to be held accountable for walking the talk…”

THE APPROACH

Over the course of 18 months, we partnered with the CEO to support on the development of the leadership team by:

  • Defining roles and focus: Establishing clear team roles, collective focus, and aligned behaviours and ways of working.
  • Building processes: Implementing supporting processes and governance structures to reinforce the team’s direction.
  • Creating a target culture: Guiding the team in defining a new culture for the organisation, using Culture15 to track progress and adapt as needed.
  • Onboarding new members: As the team continued to evolve, we ensured alignment with team dynamics and behavioural expectations.
  • Tracking levels of trust: Through our own Team Effectiveness Survey, we were able to measure the impact of new initiatives and behaviour changes on the wider team.

More case studies

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) recognised that strengthening its executive team would be critical to delivering its strategy. While its leaders brought significant individual expertise, there was an opportunity to create a more integrated, high-performing team that was greater than the sum of its parts, while establishing the ways of working and leadership behaviours needed to support this.
Since 2019, Coode has partnered with Solina to support its transformation into a globally aligned organisation. As the company achieved fivefold revenue growth and expanded across Europe, the Americas and Asia, integrating 18 acquisitions, Coode helped define a unifying strategic narrative and operating model that balanced local agility with global scale. By aligning leadership and embedding shared cultural principles, Solina built one cohesive story that continues to drive its international success.
In late 2020, No7 Beauty Company was launched as a standalone consumer packaged goods company under the Walgreens Boots Alliance to maximise its commercial opportunity. The business was in ‘recovery mode’ from the effects of the pandemic, and Mark Winter was appointed as a new Managing Director to lead the company.
